Elise P. Church, Crudites, 2022, 24″ x 24″, acrylic & oil on canvas
I repurpose and reimagine 1960’s photographs acquired on Ebay like the ones missing from my family albums. Excised fragments of the prints are the subject of my paintings. They drift between representational and abstract, familiar and ambiguous. Like my own past, the images signify relationships and moments that can no longer be retrieved.

Elise P. Church was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1965. She has had solo exhibitions at Garrison Art Center, Garrison, NY, Happy Lucky No.1 Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, Gallery Molly Krom in New York City, Roy G. Biv Gallery in Columbus, OH and at the Catskill Arts Society in Livingston Manor, NY. Her work has been exhibited in selected group shows in New York, Massachusetts, Venice, Paris and Bermuda. She received her Bachelor of Science from Skidmore College, NY in 1987 with a major in Fine Arts. Elise lives & works in Brooklyn and is an Anaplastologist in Manhattan.
