From a series about the black men missing in our society, either through incarceration or premature death.
Aileen Bassis is an artist and poet. Her work on paper includes book arts, installation, printmaking, photography and painting. She received a B.A. in Studio Art from SUNY at Binghamton and a M.A. in Creative Art from Hunter College. She received three Artist Project Grants and two Su Casa grants from the Queens Arts Fund, a Fellowship in Photography from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a Dodge Foundation Fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center, and three grants from the Puffin Foundation. Her solo exhibits include York College Gallery and LaGuardia Community College. Her group shows include Clemente Soto Gallery, Hunterdon Museum, Center for Book Arts, Jersey City Museum and the Queens Museum. She’s also a published poet and was awarded a grant in Literature from NYS Council on the Arts.
