“This painting is acrylic on a repurposed canvas and was among the last paintings I made on canvas. Since thenI have worked primarily on paper which is my first love. In 2014 I was beginning to focus on increasingly abstract forms and to explore deeply saturated color. This was one of the paintings that emerged. As always, I strive for a level of ambiguity to encourage the viewer to bring their own experience to the work.”

Ellen Chuse has been a part of the Gowanus Arts community for over 24 years and was an early participant and organizer of the annual Gowanus Open Studio Tour beginning in 2000. In recent years, in addition to the 440 Gallery where she shows frequently, her work has been shown at the Art on Paper Fair and Gallery MC in Manhattan as well as the Kentler Gallery, Site Brooklyn and Established Gallery in Brooklyn. In 2021 she participated in a collaboration with Italian artists as part of BAU Progetto which was exhibited at the Palazzo Reale, Milan, Italy in 2023. In the summer of this year she showed with other 440 artists at ep contemporary gallery in Berlin. Her next solo show at 440 Gallery is scheduled for spring of 2025.
