cHURCH OF MONIKA: Jesus Leal

January 23, 11am
In person at Open Source Gallery, 306 17th Street, Brooklyn, NY
Jesus Leal was born in the mining town of Sierra Madre of Chihuahua, Mexico to a family of prospectors, miners and ranchers. As an imaginative child connected to the natural elements of his environment, Jesus observed the patterns left in leaves by caterpillars. He soon began to create his own patterns using cactus thorns to carve images into dried leaves. Constantly working on leaves ever since, Jesus feels that his mission is to create different characters and natural images on the leaves to speak to their importance on planet earth. “I describe myself as an artisan who loves peace, harmony, love and the balance between the flora and fauna of our only planet.”
Jesus Leal will be explaining the origin of his work and the leafs he crafts into art. We will serve Coffee and Bagels. The work will be on sale. All proceeds go to the artist.
