Artist-In-Residence: Yasmeen Abdallah

September-November 2018
OS Gowanus (234 Butler St., Brooklyn)

In September 2018, Yasmeen Abdallah will become the first artist-in-residence at OS Gowanus. Yasmeen will be working at OS Gowanus throughout the fall, displaying her work in progress, and inviting the public to share in her process.
Yasmeen Abdallah’s artistic practice functions as a form of visual anthropology, focusing on the exploration of the human experience. Visual language has the power and potential to operate as a method of communication that unifies people beyond geographic, cultural, linguistic, and ideological divides. This mode of translation via visual discourse centers upon the fusion between emotional intuition; the labor involved in process-based practices; and the examination of ideas, histories, and conditions, as a means of channeling or challenging existing structures and developing them further.
Through exploration of space, memory and environment, she weaves ideologies and materials together, resulting in an organic experience for the viewer.
