This year’s theme is:
I Am Because We Are: Queer Advocacy, Empowerment, & Autonomy Through Art
Artists were asked to consider the following questions:
- What does Queer Advocacy, Empowerment, & Autonomy look like to you?
- In the current cultural climate of the nation, what does art do for you to navigate the treatment of the LGBTQIA+ community?
- How does art empower you as a LGBTQIA+ individual, and how does the piece you submitted showcase that?
- Is advocacy in your survival tool kit?
Ed Woodham is serving as a mentor to the artists. Ed is an independent elder Southern queer conceptual social- absurdist artist, curator, producer, and educator. Ed will also be a part of Open Source’s 2025 Performance Festival. More information about the festival can be found here.
Brooklyn YAS Coalition is a coalition of non-profit organizations, government agencies, community members, and LGBTQ+ youth focused on preventing LGBTQ+ youth substance misuse by creating safer spaces and a greater sense of belonging in the communities of Crown Heights, Flatbush and East Flatbush.
