Raquel Penzo was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, within a strict and sheltered Dominican household. She levied a sedentary childhood into a love affair with the written word and has since turned her passion into a semi-lucrative career as a writer and editor, producing content for entertainment magazines and websites, non-profit organizations and professional and scientific trade papers. She currently works as a copywriter for Brooklyn Public Library.
In between writing assignments, Penzo, a graduate of the creative writing MFA program at Fairleigh Dickinson University who lists authors Julia Alvarez and Stephen King among her sources of inspiration, maintains three sites – The Jaded NYer, RaquelPenzo.com and La Pluma y La Tinta – organizes literary readings and writing workshops throughout New York City and promotes a balanced mind-body-soul lifestyle via her latest business venture, Baobab Wellness. Her published works include “Grey Matter” (Blue Lake Review) and her self-published tome, My Ego Likes the Compliments…And Other Musings on Writing.
Penzo is currently working on her first novel, Enfermos, based on the short stories written as part of her MFA thesis.
