Quarantine Jam 10/4

Mara Rosenbloom Keys & Synth
Melanie Dyer Viola
Sam Newsome Soprano Saxophone

Pianist, composer, & bandleader Mara Rosenbloom has been called “a whole hearted poet of the piano,” – she is a builder & a synthesist; a fiercely lyrical composer & improviser (All About Jazz). With an interest in building community by encouraging honest expression and interactive dialogue through music – human connection has been a focus of Rosenbloom’s work throughout the past decade, and as a result, powerful group interaction has become a hallmark of Rosenbloom’s sound.

Tonight, Rosenbloom brings together a trio featuring two highly acclaimed, and resoundingly creative musicians – composer, improviser, bandleader, visual artist Melanie Dyer on Viola, and composer/improviser, Sam Newsome on Soprano Saxophone. Dyer’s own ensemble WeFreeStrings has been praised for it’s “deep sense of freedom,” (JazzTrail) while Newsome, a pioneer of extended techniques on his instrument has been heralded for turning “the sound of a single soprano into a one-man band” (All About Jazz). Although Rosenbloom has collaborated with Dyer & Newsome respectively on other projects in the past, this particular trio formed in quarantine, rehearsing & making their debut exclusively over Zoom. Tonight will be their first performance, live, in person!
