OPEN SOUND: Pete Galub and the Annuals
July 12th, 7pm
@ Open Source gallery, 306 17th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215
Pete Galub and the Annuals (Tom Gavin on bass, Chris Moore on dums) create a unique brand of guitar-pop that embraces melody, dissonance and humor. Author Rick Moody says, “… sort of an amalgam of things that are important to the last thirty years of rock and roll. You can hear Television in him, and The Replacements, and The Feelies, and The Clean, and The Individuals, and Freedy Johnston, and Pavement, and the dBs, etc. But his playing is so great and his songs so impassioned, that he transcends the density of influence and becomes totally his own.” You can also hear Pete Galub’s songs and guitar playing in Hal Hartley’s recent films “Meanwhile” and “My America.” Hartley says “I’ve been a fan for years.”
