During LOW WALK HIGH WALK artist Matthew Jensen will lead a walk through the neighborhood of South Slope beginning and ending at Open Source. Participants will pause along the way to share stories, discuss histories, and highlight current transformations to the neighborhood. The walk will loop down to the edge of Gowanus Bay and up to the highest point in Brooklyn near Battle Hill in Green-Wood Cemetery. By the end of the walk participants will have generated a collection of objects, ephemera and natural detritus, which will be arranged and exhibited back in the gallery.

Jensen, who lived for years in South Slope, creates projects that use walking as a central action to reveal forgotten histories and natural wonders. His most recent project, Among Trees and Stones, at Green-Wood Cemetery yielded a walking map of the grounds with beech trees as the main points of interest.

RSVP is required for this event.

LOW WALK HIGH WALK is presented in conjunction with There From Here: A Collection of Brooklyn Walks, an exhibition by Matthew Jensen and curated by Ian Cofre, at Open Source Gallery. This exhibit will be on view from June 13-July 21, 2018 with an opening reception on June 13 (7-9pm). There From Here at Open Source brings together photographs and maps from past projects on Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Prospect Park, Barren Island and Green-Wood Cemetery.
