50% of All Proceeds to Benefit FOOD BANK for NEW YORK CITY.

It truly hurts my heart that during this time there are those that are struggling to put food on their table; I wanted to do my part to help in some way.  I decided to put my LOVE, CREATIVITY, and SUPPORT into making masks to sell.  This will help me, while I am unemployed, and help those in my own back yard here in Brooklyn.  The masks are made out of mostly repurposed goods – many shirts, bandannas, and jackets right out of our closets, and every box of quilting and craft fabric in my studio.

The FOOD BANK for NEW YORK CITY’s mission statement is “To end hunger by organizing food, information and support for community survival, empowerment, and dignity”, and they take many paths to the one solution of ending hunger and poverty in the greater NYC area.  They are a great organization and are helping in a huge way during this time and always.
Peter Ripley is a Brooklyn based Artist, Minister and Life Coach with a background in Textile Design.  He decided to leave the corporate world as a VP/Creative Director after 9/11 to start a new career as a hair colorist.  This created the time and energetic space to enter a 5 year program being ordained as a Minister of Spiritual Consciousness AND at the same time get back back to his art and creativity.  Now his ministry IS his art.  Creating art and various projects out of repurposed and reused materials and then take proceeds from those creations and donate to progressive organizations and non-profits that are important to him; he sees this as a positive repurposing of the treasures that are given to him.  He and his husband of 30+ years, Mark, focus on human rights and environmental issues and organizations based here in NYC and around the country. Gert updates on Peter’s facebook page.

Peter will be joined by Nancy Cross Shimmel, an old time and much loved resident on 17th Street, a big fan of Open Source Gallery. She is also known for her fabulous cooking, her great parties and last but not least the amazing cocktails she can put together.

Please, join us to buy some masks from Peter, donate some money whatever you can spare and to enjoy a drink and some company with us.
