Raskin’s studio floor — or what he calls ‘the Poet’s ground’ and sometimes ‘the earthbound plane’ — is a hot spot of activity. Captured in a pattern, the remnants of a studio long past are cast in aluminum. And then once again, are fast aged by more and more studio practice.
Jimmy Raskin, based in Brooklyn, NY, explores the intersection of art and poetry through a multidisciplinary practice he calls “Being Poetic.” Leaning towards graphic arts over traditional painting and favoring collages and props over conventional sculpture, Raskin embraces the auxiliary space of meaning, humorously referring to himself as a “Conceptual Heartist.” Puns and clichés are central to his artistic exploration, reflecting his fascination with where meaning and meaningfulness can be sustained at their most fundamental state of realization and form. Raskin’s work is intentionally diverse, often resembling a group show of various attempts to capture moments of poetic embrace. In essence, his art can be seen as an ongoing self-portrait of The Self confronting All That Is—a perpetual juxtaposition in search of a finale, a singularity of true non-meaning, or perhaps, a new beginning. Raskin exhibits with Miguel Abreu Gallery.
