HTBAF: Honoring Our Ancestors

HTBAF: Honoring Our Ancestors

Friday, October 30, 2020
8pm (EST)
On Zoom

October is a month known for recognizing spirits and energies. Many of us are familiar with events like Dia de Muertos, All Saints Day or something similar. Many cultures have rituals regarding honoring their deceased loved ones, both solemn and celebratory. Storytellers may tell a story about their own family ritual, regarding burial, mourning or celebration of life.

Open Source Gallery in collaboration with poet Terence Degnan provides an exhibit space that evokes truth and exudes beauty. Through humor, pain, insight
and discovery storytellers will bear witness to our past, our present, and our collective futures.

Co-hosts of How to Build A Fire Season VII: Lily White–musician, author, educator, and Jackie Reason–memoirist, playwright, curator, invite the telling of sweet and savory tales conveyed through music, language and art to explore intersections of identity and psyche to an audience who will emerge enlightened, enriched and emboldened.

How To Build a Fire will return to the gallery for Season 7, while remaining on Zoom for its audience. While maintaining a social distance, four storytellers and this year’s co-curators, Lily White and Jackie Reason, will broadcast the event from OSG. HTBAF happens every last Friday of the month. We look forward to seeing your faces once again, but in the meantime please join us online for our monthly meetup.
