It’s April and time for the Season 10 finale of How to Build a Fire. The installation at Open Source this month is Kathleen McDermott’s Repair Shop, an exploration of the life and value of our objects. What are the things in our lives that need fixing? Are they enormous things, are they ones so tiny we set them aside until they pile up and become un-ignore-able?

As a kid, standing with my mom in an electronics shop, the owner threw up his hands after studying our dying stereo and pronounced it BER: Beyond Economic Repair. Are some things irreparable? Or can even those things be revived, be inspiration, be catalysts of change? Do we put those fixes in others’ hands, or take on the challenge ourselves? Is an investment in repair an act of frugality, a reverence for age and history, love?

Our finale show theme is Beyond Economic Repair / Repair Is Fertile. What are the stories that make us dig into our emotional toolboxes, that make us throw up our hands or wipe our brows and keep going? Join us on the 25th and let’s find out together.
