Hernease is a multi-disciplinary artist working with photograms, cyanotypes, performance and craft to explore her own rituals of self-care. She has exhibited her work throughout the U.S., including the Houston Center for Photography, the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, the International Center of Photography and The Clemente Soto Vélez Center on the Lower East Side. Hernease earned her M.F.A from the International Center of Photography – Bard College and is on faculty at the Visual Studies Workshop. She has also served as a Visiting Lecturer at ICP-Bard where she lead a course exploring empathy through art practice. She is currently based in Brooklyn and is a 2019-2020 SHIFT Artist-In-Residence at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts.
