Marlene Hausegger’s practice is interested in the hidden limitations and restricted possibilities of social situations, which she discovers in the public realm. Drawing inspiration from New York’s most famous rat, Scabby, for her exhibition at Open Source Marlene will mold an inflated rat filling the gallery from ceiling to floor. For years, Scabby has served as the unofficial mascot for organized labor in New York, becoming a familiar, if not always welcome, sight to millions of residents. The exhibition will also feature interviews and research material related to fights for better working conditions in New York.
