Juan Pablo Plazas is an artist based in Brussels, Belgium since 2012. He describes his activities as a sort of fortuitous ethnography that unveils itself through the manners of an art practice. This means that he’s constantly looking for the unexpected within the apparently obvious, the blatant certainty of the misunderstood and the wrong answers to the questions that no one ever asks. He’s specially attracted to coincidences, which he takes as the thread that guides any kind of project he’s doing, as the only proof that something ties this world together. He’s well aware that coincidences are made of encounters, unexpected meaningful encounters. To be able to make use of coincidences, he creates strategies to make myself available to them. He uses the same strategies to build sculptures, performances, installations, videos, audio pieces, photographs, drawings or whatever other medium the circumstances of a project demands. His aim is to understand the poetic nature of places, situations or contexts, things that are thin and fragile enough to see, declare and treat as facts.
