Open Sound: Hammer County

Hammer County is Mike Shapiro, Jennifer Nelson, and Burkhard Bilger—all long-time Park Slope residents. Formed in 2015, we sing tight trio harmonies on Country classics and beguiling originals, with the occasional French cabaret number thrown in. They are an acoustic trio featuring guitar, fiddle, banjo, and accordion. The style is deliberately eclectic—everything from Bluegrass to Haitian folksongs to Berlin cabaret songs from the 1920s—but bound together by the tight harmonies.
