Art Beyond Commodity; Art as a Practice of Care

Elaine Su-Hui is a visual artist and founder of Inner Fields NY; an experiential, collaborative project exploring the intersection of Buddhism, radical ecology, and artistic practice. Through a creative methodology grounded in gift economics and communal intimacy, Inner Fields designs public programs and curated events aimed at breaking down hierarchical and commodity-based forms of interaction, and building relationships steeped in ecological wisdom. Originally hosted from Elaine’s apartment in Brooklyn, Inner Fields is now a trans-national, collectivized organization of eight artists, writers, scholars and educators, reflecting a spectrum of cultural and spiritual backgrounds.
For cHURCH OF MONIKA, Elaine will host a discussion around building genuine community as a liberation practice for artists; a way of re-orienting our creativity from consumerist paradigms of competition, separation, and scarcity, towards a culture of generosity, equity, and ecological belonging.
