cHURCH OF MONIKA: CricketFarm

What is the cHURCH? | cHURCH OF MONIKA: CricketFarm | Watch on Livestream
April 8, 2018
11:00am
Join Adam Brody, founder of Brooklyn’s CricketFarm, at the cHURCH for a presentation about the art of farming crickets for people to eat. This is a free event. Bagels and coffee will be served.
Crickets are exponentially more environmentally friendly than beef, chicken, and pork–even more than many kinds of vegetable protein. They are also wonderful little creatures that are a pleasure to get to know. During cHURCH, participants will have the opportunity to taste crickets and observe a model cricket farm. Adam will also share excerpts from a series of essays that he is currently writing about his experiences of living with thousands of crickets in his apartment.
Adam Brody has been raising crickets in his apartment in Brooklyn since 2017. His project explores the art of farming, inter-species relationships, the potential for crickets as a sustainable and accessible food source, and the therapeutic benefit of cricket songs. Adam has presented his cricket project at The Free Library of Philadelphia, the Spring Sessions Residency, The National Gallery of Fine Art in Amman, Jordan, and at Open Source Gallery’s Soup Kitchen. He has a satellite colony in Ridgewood, Queens in collaboration with artist Jude Tallichet. He is currently looking for a storefront/publicly accessible place to expand his farm and his public programming.
