Open Source Gallery joined Artfare for an artist talk with Sarah E. Brook about her practice and her solo exhibition at Open Source, which has been postponed due to COVID-19. Artfare curator Carolina Wheat-Nielsen will lead the conversation.

Sarah E. Brook is a Brooklyn-based sculptor and installation artist, born and raised in Reno, NV. Brook explores the relationship between expansive external and internal (psychic) space through works that are both object and perceptual experimentation. She has exhibited with BRIC, Lesley Heller, Field Projects, Re:Art, the (un)Scene, Carrie Able Gallery, NARS, Ground Floor Gallery, the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art and others. She has been awarded residencies from SPACE on Ryder Farm, Jentel Foundation, Playa and Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts. Brook’s public art sculptures include Open Shelter in Prospect Park, Align, a permanent installation in Crystal Park, NY, and Viewfinding, a one-year installation in Riverside Park, Manhattan which incorporates queer poetry and community programming.

Artfare curator and artist liaison Carolina Wheat-Nielsen is the cofounder and director of Elijah Wheat Showroom. She received her BFA from University of Michigan Stamps School and MFA W from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Wheat writes about art and culture and has curated numerous political and socially conscientious exhibitions in Detroit, Berlin, London, Chicago, and New York. She is one of the original founding members of the Nasty Women Exhibition movement and continues to work with artists, collectors, and activists internationally. Wheat assists The Estate of Gordon Matta-Clark liaising with institutions to help reproduction of Matta-Clark’s Garbage Wall, 1970. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Vulture, Hyperallergic, Fast Company, MAAKE Mag, The Brooklyn Rail, The Guardian, and China Daily, among others.
