Leigh Davis creates artworks that honor marginalized communities of the sick and aging–specifically those at end-of-life. With her interactive audio installation, Vigil, Davis urges her audience to join her in a death meditation, promoting new attitudes and approaches towards dying. Growing from her participation within the women’s Threshold Choir, who sing to vulnerable persons during their transition, Davis will build and install a deathbed inside the acoustically unique chapel in Brooklyn’s historic Green-Wood Cemetery. Participants will be invited to recline upon this artwork, assuming the position of the dying, and stretch their imaginations around this re-emerging tradition of song at death. This installation will be accompanied by a live evening performance by the Threshold Choir.

Davis’ exhibition record includes Dixon Place, Morbid Anatomy Museum, the Maryland Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Hunter East Harlem Gallery for socially-engaged projects. She has received rewards from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and the NYC Department of Aging. She teaches at the New School in New York City.
