Natural Wonders Camp
Weekly Summer classes ages 7-12 at the Park and at Open Source’s Classroom/Art Studio with Heidi Langeneckert.
Learn about the many native plants that grow in Prospect Park and our urban landscape. We will learn how they were traditionally used as medicine, food, and informed native people about the earth.
Students will document learning of about 10 local plants per week, using art methods and materials including: Paper Making, Herbal Journal Book Making, Plant Pressing, Natural Dyes, Herbal Medicine Making, and Printmaking. Each week will focus on specially designed projects, and plants in season!
About the Instructor Heidi Langeneckert
I am an artist and teacher with an MA in Art Education. I have been teaching art and design for the past 10 years and throughout my career as a designer. As an artist I specialize and enjoy using a wide variety of sculptural materials including glass, clay, fiber, and technology. My teaching is informed by concepts of artistic growth and development. I believe that structured art instruction can liberate and develop creativity and artistic ways of thinking that help us create richer more meaningful lives.
My goal is that students learn to experiment, discover and design in the expressive qualities of new materials. I also hope to teach students valuable ways of thinking about the world and solving problems.
