A hands on workshop using Museums and Galleries as their study rooms/inspiration.

- learn how to screen print
- get woodworking tutorials
- explore photography
- visit shows at museums
- have your own show at OPEN SOURCE GALLEY

Tuesday and Thursdays
3:30 – 6:30PM

rsvp online until one day before

KOKO is an after school program for kids aged 5 -14 years old. We offer a variety of creative workshops in screen-printing, photography, woodwork, textiles, graphics, painting, sculpture and many more.

The kids are split up in two age groups (5-7 years old and 8-14 years old), as well as we consider each child’s experience. We are flexible with age and group participation.

Our aim is to introduce young people to different creative methods, give them an overview and a chance to experiment with nonstandard techniques.

The kids can work according to their pace. We will encourage them to learn a technique, experiment with it and develop a project.

They can design and print their own T-shirts, explore methods in digital and film photography, use our wood-workshop under strict adult supervision, design costumes and wall pieces.

We try to support each child in its needs and interests.

On top of that we want to introduce KOKO kids to important institutions in the art world. Explore the works of famous artist in shows at the MoMA, New Museum, Metropolitan Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum, Queens Museum of Art and other.

We will schedule our monthly museum visits according to the most interesting line-up.

The goal of KOKO creative kids program is to have the children develop a unique project and give them the opportunity to exhibit their work in OPEN SOURCE GALLERY. There is an annual group show for all KOKO kids to share their work with the public!

The schedule for all classes 1-2 months ahead is on view online. The kids can pick their favorite ones or join us for every class as much as they want.

KOKO classes take place every Tuesday and Thursday (except holidays – watch out for special events), 3:30-6:30pm on 257 17th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215.

We also offer 30min homework time on request. Please feel free to leave us a message for any other inquiries.

ALL TOOL USE UNDER STRICT ADULT SUPERVISION.

Summer Camp for kids age 10-14

July 6th through July 16th

Keen on the need for green, and inspired by stories like the tale of young William Kamkwamba in “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” (written with Bryan Mealer), Monika Wuhrer and Hubert Dobler will host a quixotic 2-week workshop with the purpose of building one big windmill. The windmill will be constructed out of found material. We will go to local hardware stores to purchase additional material, but we do encourage all campers to look for materials at home and on the streets. Our hope is to generate enough power to run TV’s / radios / small appliances. Who knows, we might even be able to power a simple videogame! We will be using tools like electric drills, saws, hammers etc. All tool use will be under strict adult supervison. Space is very limited, we will only be able to host 6 kids.

Daily 9am -3pm
