Urban Plant Research: August 15 – August 30

Urban Plant Research is a collaboration between the artists Sara Bouchard, based in Brooklyn, and Leslie Kuo, based in Berlin, dedicated to investigating the lives of plants in urban areas. Part research, part observation and part imaginative speculation, the project takes an open-ended, multi-faceted approach as the artists explore, document and interpret their green subjects through several media including photography, drawing, text and video. To communicate across an ocean, the artists maintain the online journal www.urbanplantresearch.org, providing a hub for ongoing dialogue among the artists and readers around the globe.
The pair will turn Open Source Gallery into a center for urban plant discussion, inviting community participation inside the gallery as well as hosting plant walks through the neighborhood. The artists will continue their online presence while working in residence to encourage looking at, thinking about and acting on behalf of our plant neighbors.
The artists welcome you to be part of their research. Send your plant stories, images, or other comments to urbanplantresearch@gmail.com.
